Hello! Welcome to the online home of Cottam Nursery School in Cottam, Preston.

The nursery benefits from a rural setting having been the local village primary school before we opened as a nursery 22 years ago. We have 4 playrooms which provide access to all areas of continuous provision. We are surrounded by fields and wildlife and have sheep and horses in close proximity contributing to a rich and varied outdoor environment for the children to explore. Our playground area has been specifically designed to provide a wide range of activities.

Currently we are open term times from 8:30 till 5:00 with permission to run a holiday service when the need arises.

We have an excellent team of 9 staff who are all qualified or have had experience over a number of years. One is an EYP with B Ed qualifications, 5 hold level 3 and 2 hold level 2 and are undertaking level 3 courses.
At Cottam we take the time to get to know children as individuals and work closely with parents/carers and other professionals to promote inclusive practice. We have used various tools to assist communication e.g. photos, keywords in familiar languages and Makaton signing we also purchase additional resources when necessary and have accessed translation services. Staff are adept at differentiating activities within nursery to ensure all children have access to all areas of learning and support is given where appropriate with everyday activities such as snack times. We feel it important to be part of the local community and achieve this by developing links with local toddler groups inviting them to toy sales etc, taking part in local community events and liaising with the local Children's Centre.

As a setting we are committed to look at ways to improve and develop. We were one of the first nurseries in the County to achieve the Lancashire Quality Award in 2007 and have successfully been awarded this title for a further 2 years!

We are always reviewing methods of work, staff are encouraged to attend training courses and feed back improvements and we are open to ideas from our local Early Years Consultant and attend local cluster meetings. We also hold regular staff meetings where all are encouraged to contribute ideas.
